Our view:
The article highlights the current DGCA-IndiGo fiasco, mentioning that in the tug-of-war between the government/regulators on the one hand, and businesses on the other, it is the common citizens or the customers, who actually suffer and pay for the lapses.
While stating that Regulators are for promoting competition in the markets, they should also ensure health and safety.
It speaks about the Aviation sector, now a duopoly, needs a single, arm's-length regulator with separate branches for safety and competition. DGCA was criticized because its sudden order on limiting crew working hours caused widespread travel disruption without advance warning. But then, it should not have been withdrawn if safety was the main issue for its introduction.
